UFC Betting Review:

UFC 109 pictureWell this is UFC 109 and not 1993 in Denver, Colorado. In 1993 a Gracie dominated the UFC and showed the world what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu really is. But this is 2010 and a Gracie not longer dominates mixed martial arts or even jujitsu for that matter. That was apparent as Rolles Gracie entered into the octagon for the first time since Royce Gracie at UFC 60: Hughes vs. Gracie.

Well the Gracie name no longer has that much cache as Rolles came in as a -450 online betting favorite in most online sportsbooks against last minute replacement Joey Beltran. Beltran was able to use his superior stand up to knockout Rolles at 1:31 in the second round.

Two fighters who had some good hype behind them both lost and now Brian Stann and Phillipe Nover might now be cut from the UFC as both lost by unanimous decision to Phil Davis and Rob Emerson. Mac Danzig seemed to avert getting cut from the UFC with a unanimous decision victory over Justin Buchholz who most likely will get cut from the UFC.

Frank Trigg put on a horrible performance and like his last fight was KO’ed badly. Paulo Thiago won submission of the night with a beautiful Brabo Choke as he showed a dominating grappling performance as a +185 sportsbook underdog. Chael Sonnen upset top middleweight contender Nate "The Great" Marquardt with a unanimous decision.

The main event had the oldest 2 fighters square off. In the first round Couture landed some powerful shots and lands a jab in the center of the Octagon and backs straight away from a punching flurry. Couture lands a right hand and then roughs Coleman up with knees to the chin from a Thai clinch and a left hook collapses Coleman but Coleman survives the first round. In the second round, Couture gets a takedown and moves immediately to mount and is able to take Coleman’s back. Couture gets the rear-naked choke just as Coleman is about to pass out at 1:09 of the second round.
