Dream.4 - Middleweight Grand Prix Second Round
Dreams Fight Results and Recap
Dreams Mixed Martial Arts Betting Review:
Dream.4 started off with a continuation of the lightweight grand prix final match as Shinya Aoki came into the fight a huge online betting favorite against Katsuhiko Nagata at -800. There is a reason why the online sportsbooks had him at -800 as he made quick work of Nagata as Aoki came in to the ring and took Nagata down with ease. He controlled the fight with easy takedowns and taking mount. In mount Aoki tried a top guillotine but Nagata slipped out. Also from mount Aoki leaned forward and used to dexterity to lift his leg over onto Nagata’s throat for a vicious topside gogoplata first round victory.
Alistair Overeem was next up on the card and made short work of Tae Hyun Lee as he just needed 36 seconds to KO him in front of a roaring crowd.
Ralek Gracie made his MMA debut for Dream as he took this fight with just two weeks notice after his special grappling match with Cro Cop was cancelled. Ralek was cautious at the start of the fight and came in with front push kicks to break the distance just like how Royce Gracie did in the past. Ralek shot in a tried to take Gadzhiev Alavutdin down but instead Alavutdin landed in full mount but Ralek easily got out and onto his knees and scrambled up to stand up and Alavutdin clocked him hard in the face that send Ralek to the ground. Once ref stood up fighters, Ralek shot in and took Alavutdin down to side control and than mount and than spun around for a nice armbar with 3:02 left in the second round.
Gegard Mousasi came into his fight versus Yoon Dong-sik as a favorite for once after his impressive win over Denis Kang. The heavy hitting Mousasi was full of confidence as Yoon Dong-sik was a 3 to 1 underdog in this fight. Mousasi had a great sprawl and every Yoon Dong-sik shoot in attempt, Mousasi would sprawl and hit him with knees and kicks. Mousasi’s lower leg kicks were brutal throughout the first round. Mousasi’s vicious standup attack dominated Yoon as the kicks in the stand up were taking it’s toll. Near the end of the first round, Yoon had top position in Mousasi’s turtle and had to fight off an armbar but Mousasi would not let go of his grip as he held off till the first round bell. The first 8 ½ minutes were dominated by Mousasi’s kicks but the last minute and a half were dominated but Yoons’s ground game. The second round Mousasi took Yoon down and had a body triangle on him and peppered Yoon with shots to his back till the end of the fight. Mousasi wins a very impressive unanimous decision.
Zelg Galesic (little Crop Cop) and Taiei Kin immediately clinched in the first round and once ref separated the fighters and put them back to center of ring, Galesic throw Taiei Kin down with a hip toss and Taiei Kin landed on his elbow wrong and had to tap out to the due pain. For initial accounts it looked like Kin broke his elbow.
The most anticipated fight of the night between Jacare and Jason Miller was the fight of the night. From the start, Jacare used his aggressiveness and came forward with punches and tried to administer a kimura but Miller got out. Jacare takes Miller down again and in Miller’s half guard he gets side control but Miller rolls out and Jacare transitions to a leg lock. Miller gets out and up to his feet and lands two knees to Jacare. Ronaldo de Souza once again gets the takes down and has Miller in another leg lock but Miller again escapes but rolls onto Miller back with a body triangle. Miller fights off a rear naked choke. The first round ends with Ronaldo de Souza going for a kimura. The second round had Miller landing some punches and kicks to Jacare but once again he takes him down and goes for a rear naked choke. As the fight ends Jacare win the unanimous decision through takedowns and submission attempts.
The final match had MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba step into fight Melvin Manhoef. Both fighters were cautious as they circled each other for the first part of the round but finally Manhoef landed a vicious high right leg kick to Sakuraba head which rocked him and Manhoef landed vicious punches which KO’ed the living legend at 1:39 of the first round. Manhoef moves on in the tournament. Despite Sakuraba’s accomplishments in MMA it might be time for him to retire.
